I built my first computer this year. Its been running perfectly fine for about two months. But now when I play games it will intermittently display grey vertical lines on my screen that completely override the game. I have to restart my computer to get rid of this screen. Sometimes it goes a few hours without doing it and other times it happens back to back. I have installed all of the most recent drivers for my graphics card and processor(amd fx 6300). I dont know if this problem is more with the card, or the monitor. Please help

Solution
The grey lines are likely called 'artifacts', and they only appear for a few potential reasons:
1. Power supply cannot properly power your components
2. CPU is struggling to compute, or is above a reasonable temperature.
3. GPU is struggling to compute, or is above a reasonable temperature
4. General gpu/cpu malfunctions.

The most common reasons for artifacts in games:
1. GPU is 'burning out' due to overclocking abuse, or ware-and-tear.
2. High temperatures

Have you tried making sure it's the GPU by swapping it out? Try taking out the GPU and reproducing the glitch.
Have you tried another monitor?

The PSU is a corsair cx750m. It has adequate power for the cards 2 x 6+2 i would believe. The pc runs fairly cool even in long gaming sessions. I have yet to try a different monitor as i do not have an extra. It just started doing this a few days ago, if there was a problem i would think that it would've been apparent from the start?

Also, just to clarify. I looked up "artifacts" and that sounds like a different issue than what i am having. There isn't anything being "burned into my monitor". Nor do the lines ever appear just partially. These grey lines are a solid, uniform and take up the whole screen. When it happens I am unable to see through to the game being displayed behind. It is almost like it takes me to a whole different screen all together.

Problems with GPUs don't always appear at the start. Sometimes a lot of usage will take it's toll.

That power supply seems sufficient, and you've obviously been keeping an eye on the temps.

Does it only show the artifacts in a particular game, or in all games? Do the lines appear during movie-playback (HD movies, netflix, etc)?

It happens all across the board no matter what game I am playing. And it doesn't seem to matter the length of time played either. I can hop onto Arma 3 or Battlefield 4 and run it on ultra for a few hours before it will happen, or it might not even happen. But then I can log onto a game like Counterstrike, or some other non graphic intense game and it will happen fairly quickly. I don't do any movies or netflix on my computer and it might be important to not that it hasn't happened on my desktop screen or while browsing the internet.

It sounds more and more like a GPU problem.
I would really try swapping out monitors. Borrow one from a family member/friend. Do what you gotta do, but I would definitely suggest swapping monitors to make SURE it's the GPU.

If it turns out it IS the GPU, I would immediately stop any overclocks you may have, and try running some 3dmark tests to verify that you're getting dead cells on the gpu.

ATM I'm not running any overclocking on the card. I'll try to get a monitor to test it out. Could it at all be that im using an hdmi cord instead of a vga or other cord from my gpu? Or that the GPU is in a pci 2.0 but is rated for the 3.0? here is my mobo MSI 970A-G43.
If the problem stops when I switch out the monitors what should I do with this monitor? Will factory take it and fix it or would there be a specific part to replace. I have no prior knowledge about monitor repairs.

Well if you have other types of usable cords laying around, trying swapping from HDMI to DVI or VGA.
If the problem persists, swap monitors.
If the problem still persists with the new monitor, your GPU will probably need replaced.
If it turns out that it IS the monitor, you'll have to consult the company that made the monitor to figure out what options you have for replacement/repair.
