Is Corsair CX600 a good choice for my build?

Hey,

I'm building a new computer and I'm on a bit of a budget. I've invested most of my money on the graphics card, but at the same time I am aware that it is worth investing in a quality PSU, so I need your help choosing which one. My build is as follows:

- MSI B85M-E45
- Core i5-4460
- Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 1600Mhz 8GB
- ASUS GeForce BLACK GTX 970 4GB PhysX
- Older HDD @ 7200 RPM (might get an SSD later)
- DVD-RW drive

I was thinking of going with the Corsair CX600 v3 600W. What do you guys think?

(And as a bonus question, is it a solid build? Can't really put out more $$ so if there's something that needs an upgrade, I would have to back off from the graphics card.)

Thanks!

If their is enough headroom wattage wise (ie if the system is only using 400 watts, and this is 550 so you have 150 to spare) then this will be perfect.

Thanks for your input.

Obviously putting out more $$ would yield better longevity and so on. But both of those suggested PSU:s cost about 50% more than the CX600. The CX600 is about 700sek (~ $80) and the other ones are around 1000sek (~$110?). Is there something around the same price as the CX600 that would be better? Would something with lower wattage but higher quality be a better choice?

The CX600 is a good quality PSU but if you insist on a different one then try the EVGA 600B 600W PSU. I've used that one before and had no issues, it's also around the same price!

The lower end EVGA psu's, especially the B series are not the greatest quality. If you want a good quality EVGA, your looking at the G1 and another series, but I can't recall what it was.

The guy wants a PSU within a certain budget and both the CX600 and EVGA 600B are good quality power supplies. You can always recommend better PSUs but at the end of the day it costs more money. Within that price range those two are about as good as you are going to get and i know loads of people that use those units and never have a problem.

The XFX I recommended is a fantastic power supply that should support all he needs. In the future when he has money to spare, he can upgrade to an Antec, Seasonic, or another XFX power supply. I have done a lot of research into this, and the cx series are absolute junky psu's.

Upon further research the Cx600 might not be the best choice afterall, I thank you guys for your input.

Just making sure that this is the same one that you linked Diox55 (XFX); https://www.komplett.se/xfx-proseries-core-edition-550w-psu/657685?cks=ASS&assoc=B99EC1DD-959C-4C0C-9D36-284FB69F5D76

if it is, it's amazing: it's cheaper than the CX600 and if I interpreted babernet's link correctly, it should be of much greater quality.

The XFX seems like a good choice. Do you guys think 550W will be enough for my components? I used an online W calculator that calculated the consumption to 400W. The graphics card says minimum 500W.

Yup, that's the same PSU. You have 150 watts of headroom, so that's more than enough. The graphics card should work just fine on this psu.

Wow, thanks alot for your help guys!

I think I will be going with that XFX PSU then. I'd just like to test your patience with a couple more questions, (lol).

The XFX will supply enough wattage, but will it have all the necessary connectors? The graphicscard says it needs "Power Connector : 1x8-pin + 1x6-pin", the PSU on the other hand says "1x 6pin PCIe, 1x 6+2pin PCIe". I understand that they will fit right? But what about all the other stuff?

I really want to make sure that I don't make any mistakes with the build. Seeing as I almost bought a PSU that wasn't compatible with my components, I'd rather be safe than sorry and ask one extra time now.

The 1x6_2pin PCIe is compatible with the 8 pin socket. It is just that that cable will work with both a six pin and an eight pin socket.
