Hi, I just bought my son a dell optiplex 760 SFF after our even older computer died.
I had recently bought a new PSU (EVGA 500 Bronze) and graphics card (EVGA Gforce GT 730 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1655&products_id=30085 ) for the old computer.

I was hoping to use the graphics card in the dell.....
It is fanless so lower power needs and there is space around it in the dell for cooling.
Physically it will fit if i use the two short brackets but the SFF PSU is only 235w and the website says i need 300w with 20amp on the +12v rail (i have 16amps)
Am i going to fry the card (or something else) or just not get the most out of it?
If it is a bad idea please advise on what card i can use or what power supply i can get.

The most demanding application/games at the moment are skyrim and farcry and he was fairly happy on the old Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5400+ with 2gb of ram and a 2gb card so i'm hoping that the new dell with Intel Core2 Duo E8400 with 4gb will be a step up (if i can find a graphics card that will work for it.......)

Any help would be appreciated

Hello m8. First off, lets start by saying that card is not that good. Tell me if im not understanding your question (most likely im not LOL). If you do not have enough wattage, and you try to put any new equipment that will exceed the amount you have, most likely your computer wont even turn on. If you got a 500 watt powersupply then you should be gold.

I had recently replaced the power supply and graphics card in our old computer but still had ongoing issues so i bought the Dell Optiplex 760(cheap) and I want to use theGT730 as i already have it (might not be very good but better than nothing).

I've been looking and there does not seem to be an upgrade for the PSU that will fit the case (came across all sorts of workarounds - moving the hard drive to a separate enclosure with it's own power) but nothing sensible

I can fit the graphics card to the Dell physically it is a good fit but will i damage it or will it just not run with a 235w psu?

The dell you bought is a mini tower, but from my understanding I were think PSU manufacturers make their psu's fit in any case. I also dont recommend that low of wattage, its just very unreliable. I would get the PSU, and if it does not fit, I would recommend getting a new case, or this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353001

The dell i bought was the small form factor (SFF). http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/dell/optiplex_760/309691/
There isn't another PSU option that i can find

You bought that for 2 grand?!?! That case is very, very, very small. Id be surprised if you can fit a potato in it. I would definitly transfer all your stuff to a new case.

That psu you showed me still has 280 watts. I'm still searching for you and I cant find anything for more wattage. (olso that computer is pretty old). I would get a new case and have a fun time with your son re building it ;)

"You bought that for 2 grand?!?! That case is very, very, very small"........
No, i bought that for $50....
The original power supply is 235w, the one i found on ebay is 280w but has the same 16a on the 12v rail so not much improvement.
" Id be surprised if you can fit a potato in it."
i can fit plenty of potatoes in it but that won't help
