Does the specific socket number have to match the motherboard to work?

I have a Xeon E5630 cpu and it says it is a LGA 1366 socket type. Do I need to use a motherboard that says it is compatible with that exact socket type? So like can I use a LGA 1155 motherboard with the xeon? How specific is socket type? When buying a motherboard and cpu do I need to search for LGA 1155 cpu for the motherboard and nothing else? I am not a professional, so any help is greatly appreciated.

The socket type must match the one designated for the CPU. It refers to the size, number of contact points (pins), shape, and voltages specific to the cpu.

You will need a lga1366 motherboard. Nothing else will do.
And, to be certain, look at the motherboard web site to verify that your Xeon E5630
is a supported cpu on that particular motherboard.
