How to get Windows to display two AMD High Definition Audio devices?

Hi there,

I have connected three displays to my Radeon HD 6870 2GB, one in the DVI-I port, one in the HDMI port, and one in the mini DP port via an active mini DP to HDMI adapter.

Here is where the problem is: in my playback devices window on Windows 7, I get only one option for AMD High Definition Audio. That is the DP Audio output. I would like to have both that and the HDMI out in the list, so I can switch back and forth easily. My DVI monitor does not have speakers built in so that one is a non-issue.

Before I added the mini DP to HDMI display, I had the option for HDMI output via the AMD High Def Audio option, so I know it works. Now it has switched to mini DP audio instead. Is there any possible way to get windows' playback devices to list both? In other words, I need two instances of AMD High Def Audio output in the list, rather than just one.

Thanks guys.

If the mini DP port is actively using the HD audio (i.e. connected), then you can't have the HDMI enabled for the same audio. The same way with the default audio has to be a choice between the GPU or the Sound Card. If you disable the mini DP audio, it should allow you to enable the HDMI audio.

Thanks for your reply. I am not trying to have them both playing at once, I only want to be able to have them both listed in the playback devices window so I can easily click on one or the other and set as default.
