Hey guys, I'm kind of new to this GPU stuff so I'd like to ask for your advice on something. Right now I have a Strix GTX 970, and I'm kind of upset about this 3.5GB VRAM thing. I heard that the 8GB version of the 970 is coming out soon, so I was thinking about returning my current 970 and buying an 8GB version so that in a few years I can buy another one and run SLI. I assume this setup is going to last much longer than a single GTX 980, maybe for another 5 years or so? What do you guys think?

If you always keep in mind the saying "future proofing", then it will be never ending upgrade of components.. You don't always have to buy the new technology. As long as you can game with good fps in the desired setting, then you should be fine for now. Who knows what lies in the future :)
