SYSTEM INFO:

Windows 8.1
Logitech Z623 Speakers
Razer Kraken Headset
Realtek High Definition Audio
Asus Z87 Pro Mobo

PROBLEM: I got new Logitech Z623 speakers, which are 2.1 (Stereo). Plugged them in to try them out. Later, unplugged them and plugged my headphones back in, which have always been 7.1 surround sound. However, now the headphones only play in 2.1/Stereo. I cant get them back to 7.1 surround sound! Please help!

I'VE TRIED: Clicking on my headphones under Sound/Playback the clicked Configure, which has the options for Stereo/Quadraphonic/5.1 Surround/7.1 Surround. When I select 7.1 Surround, and click Test, it tests the audio from all directions with little speaker icons in each direction. Only the front left and right 'speaker icons' make noise, no sound comes from the other directions/icons.

I have also tried to do the same in Realtek HD Audio Manager. I set the speaker config to 7.1 and when I test the 'speakers' in my headset it only plays in stereo only the left and right front speakers make noise. I have also tried updating drivers, everything seems up to date.

Is it possible that it isn't recognizing my headset as a surround sound headset, instead recognizing it as just two speakers because I had those other speakers plugged in for a moment? Not sure how to fix this, I've tried everything I can think of...any help is much appreciated!

What kind of Kraken headset are you talking about? Kraken, Kraken Pro, Kraken 7.1, Kraken 7.1 Chroma,...?

Desinstalling (while deleting EVERYTHING Razer-related in both the HDD and the registry) and re-installing Synapse may be worth a try since it seems to be just a software-related issue.
