Hello guys! I have this problem here for a while and i can't find a solution.. i was looking for days on forums on what to do and i still didn't find the cause to it..

Problem:

When i turn on my PC sometimes after 5 mintues it just freezes on idle, i can leave it for 3 minutes and it freezes by itself and i have to hard reset using the button on the case. Sometimes when i turn on a game it freezes after 10-15 minutes (game is okay because once it was working fine no problem). Sometimes it can freeze after 5 hours even. It happens either when im not using it or if its under load.. Once it froze when windows 8 loads your account before getting to the desktop. System is not the problem because once it was working fine for months, the problem just came randomly.

What i did:

I was thinking maybe my GPU is faulty and i was already getting a new one, i got the new GPU replaced correctly, problem persisted, i reinstalled the system and the problem was still there. I run furmark and the card works fine on every test and computer was stable. I ran prime95 for 1 and half an hour and it reported no errors. I run memtest86 for 2 passes and no errors (i guess i'll take a longer test tonight). The only thing that i noticed is that my ram is 1366mhz but on my bios it is set to 1066, i wanted to change it but it's greyed out (i might try to reset the bios to see if the option unlocks). I also ran a chdsk test and it reported no errors

My pc specs:

Nvidia Geforce 750gtx 2gb GIGABYTE

Intel Core i7 950 3.1ghz

2x 4gb Kingston DDR3 1366 v1.5 (that's what the label says of the 2 rams)

Mobo is acer Aspire g7711 (Checked on CPU-Z and bios and system info, also when i boot it it shows the ACER logo)

Please help i have no idea what to do now...

Is there anything else plugged into the computer? If so, what is it?

When you did the reinstall, was only the monitor cable, power cable, mouse/keyboard plugged in or were there other devices as well?

You've essentially eliminated any OS related or software related issues by performing the reinstall unless the issue is hiding a program you may have installed.

You've taxed the hardware through various methods with faults so that eliminates that.

Make a list of everything you use connected to the PC and post it here if you don't mind. :D

thanks for the fast reply! Devices connected are:

My logitech webcam
Router
My DJ console which i didnt even turn on once after format.
Sometimes my printer when i need it. Canon pixma mx395

But thing is everything was working fine once with all those stuff plugged in, this webcam has like 3 years or more and never gave me issues. All those devices were plugged in during reinstall. The problem just came randomly, im sure it is not any of the softwares i have installed, you think it might be the ram frequency speed in the way ?

Is any of the components overclocked at all? If so, take them back down to normal specifications (after writing it all down mind you) and see if it continues. If it was a frequency speed issue with the memory then Prime95 should have kicked it up when you ran it.

If nothing is overclocked, take one of the memory modules out of the computer and see if it locks up again. If it doesn't, take that module out and swap it with the other. Same concept.

If one or the other modules cause it to happen again you could potentially be looking at a bad stick of RAM or slot on the motherboard. Its going to take a bit more trial and error but if you are willing we will surely help you as mush as possible. :)

ok thank you so much! I'll try ASAP. Nothing is overclocked, only my GPU but it's OC version by design. But the problem was came even before i even put that GPU so it's not that, before that i had nothing overclocked and pc was working fine for months then suddenly the problem came by itself.. i guess it's the faulty ram.. I'll do the test taking out the memory blocks, thank you :D

What was the outcome of swapping the modules in and out?

The only problem with buying memory 2nd hand like that is sometimes the person that is selling it may not know its defective when they bought it or it was slowly dying when the previous owner had it. Pawn shops are typically a place that this is seen quite abit because they power it up long enough to see if it boots and then turn it right back off.

If its defective memory it can certainly do this. I saw an instance once where I end user was having blue screens that were related to a memory failure for like 2 weeks straight, they stopped for about 2 months, and then just completely crashed.
