If you Google “System Interrupts” there are so many issues that come up. I have dug through many many threads of people who have similar issues as me. The issue arose from noticing my CPU usage spikes around 20-30% while at idle. This impacts many things from watching videos to playing cpu intensive games. I am pretty certain the issue lies with an out of date chipset driver. The problem I am running into is Gateway's crappy driver support. I have a Gateway FX6801-01. The only driver I can find from their site is for Vista. I downloaded it anyway to see what would happen and it absolutely will not install while using Windows 8.1.

I have found this site: http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/gateway/laptops-desktops/fx6801-01/97604

The site lists all the drivers for my chipset (seems like quite a bit), but I am not sure if I should install of them, some of them, or none of them at all.

Is Driverscape legit? This seems about the only option to attempt to fix the problem.

Sorry for the title gore, I really want to help other people who may have a similar issue.

Hello, could you post a screenshot of task manager when the system interrupt is using 30% of the cpu sorted by cpu%?
It might be a bugged service running in the background, caused by an antivirus or the windows system log.

Absolutely. I am not seeing it yet. The problem never happens after a fresh boot from shutdown. It pops up sometimes right away and sometimes after a few hours. I will post as soon as I see it though. Thanks!

Fiddling around in my BIOS has shown me I have the following Advance Chipset Features set:

Intel EIST: Disabled
Intel XD Bit: Enabled
Intel VT: Enabled

are these right?

Edit*
My Frequency/Voltage Bios settings are here:

Spread Spectrum: Enabled
Processor Multiplier: 23

Just want to give as much info as possible.

EIST is for power saving, XD Bit and VT are for security. They won't matter for CPU usage.
Spread Spectrum is for Stability, Multiplier is for Clock Speeds.

The "System" process is used for anything driver-related, such as Decoding audio, pagefile modifications, etc.
I can't really understand what is causing this since I do not know what you installed in your computer.

Prehaps someone with more software knowledge could help us here?

bump.

If I can get some help on my question about Driverscape I would appreciate it.

I think a may have issues related out of date chipset drivers. I want to give it a try, I can always create a restore point if it doesn't fix the problem.
