BIOS doesn't support AHCI for SSDs. Am I out of luck?

Got my Samsung EVO 850 installed through SATA (could never get USB to work) and used the Disk Migration Tool to clone my HDD. Went into the BIOS (Phoenix 5.08 03/30/07)and set SATA mode to AHCI and set the boot priority for the SSD. Every time I rebooted, I got an error message that said the BIOS only supported AHCI for HDDs and CD-ROMs. The only way to get the system to boot was to go back to the original setting (which had the SATA mode set on RAID for some reason).

I had previously run Belarc and gotten a response that said there were no updates for my BIOS.

I assume this means the chips on my motherboard are too old to support SSDs. Am I screwed?

Thanks,

Jack

Concerned I am giving up performance because my HDD spins everytime I boot, etc. Decided to just disable the old HDD. It was a small disk anyway so I'm not losing much. Frustrating experience, but the SSD seems to be working OK so far. Live and learn.
