I have an MSI z77a-G41 motherboard and I have pushed my hardware's limits a bit too far during my latest overclocking adventure. I need to clear CMOS because my PC keeps trying to boot, failing at booting, and trying again without any success. I have looked up many guides and I cannot seem to find any solutions to this problem with my specific motherboard. If anyone knows how to clear CMOS on the MSI Z77A-G41 MOTHERBOARD, please leave an answer below.

Thanks

Solution

Battery.
Probably right below the PCI-E2 slot.
pg 1-6 in the English user manual.

The motherboard manual has the most vague description of what to do out of any manual I have ever used. There is also no clearly labeled battery anywhere on the motherboard. I have tried every generic solution I can find and am trying to find something specific to my motherboard (MSI z77a-G41). Thank you for the suggestion though. :)

I believe it is hidden on my specific motherboard. I have been down in my case searching for a good hour and can't find a darn thing.

I am so confused right now. I removed the battery and reinstalled it after 15 seconds (I had to unplug and plug the GPU back in) and then rebooted. It booted up, but there was nothing on the monitor so I fiddled with the settings to see if I could get it working. After much effort and no results I decided to reboot the PC and see if it would recognise the monitor this time. After rebooting, the computer went back into the attempt to start, fail at starting, and try again cycle it was in before I reset the CMOS. Now I am confused, angry, and annoyed at the same time. Is there any chance you have any idea of what happened because I definitely do not. Thank you for trying to help me anyway. :heink::fou::lol:

There's no need to remove the coin cell battery.

Just turn off the PSU's AC power switch and wait about 20 seconds to allow the PSU's main capacitors to discharge.

Use the tip of a screw driver to bridge the JBAT1 Clear CMOS Jumper for a few seconds. The CMOS should be cleared. Turn the PSU's AC power switch back on.

I am actually a seasoned overclocker. I just ramped my system a little too much(this wasn't the first time overclocking this specific system so I thought I had a pretty good guess on what to set the clock speed and voltage as). So I infact did not "skip research and proper information before overclocking", I just made a simple mistake.
