Okay, my question is pretty simple, but for some reason, I can't find a definitive answer, since people are so obsessed with focusing on the fact that it doesn't have sound.

I don't care. I have the Xbone headset, it plays sound through it from the controller.

My question is: If I get a 1600x900 monitor, will I be able to set the Xbox One at 1080p resolution or will I have to keep it at 720p? And if I have to put it in 720p, is it going to be that much of a difference visually since it'll only be like a 20" monitor?

I'll be using an HDMI to DVI adapter, if that matters at all.

The monitor may or may not accept a 1080p signal. It will never show 1080p because it doesn't have that many.

Get a 1080p monitor if you are able, as it will be garunteed to do that resolution and look a little bit nicer.
