So basically, I'm trying to keep my build at 2500 for gaming, and I'm just having trouble with the GPU. I know that the GTX 980 is only one GPU whilst the 295x2 is dual GPU. I just didn't know if the 295 had overheat issues, or bad optimization with games. I will be gaming at 1080p 120hz and I figured, for only 100 more dollars, I could get a really good GPU. The cpu is going to be a 4790k if that helps.

If you are only gaming at 1080p, then 1x 980 is enough, the 295x2 is more for higher resolutions like 4k. The 980 is better at lower resolutions than the 295x2.

performance wise 295x2 will be better if the game support crossfire properly. also you really need high quality PSU for that gpu not just some PSU with bigger wattage. the price drop on 295x2 really make the card an attractive deal. personally i just don't really like that all 295x2 only offering reference design which means it has that radiator.
