Agreed, the GTX 970 is better than any other card but the GTX 980 at 1920 x 1080. Your problem lies elsewhere. You have to move to 4K before the AMD cards catch up.

You will also need a minimum 650w power supply for the 290X vs a 450-500w unit for the GTX 970.

this is just in the menu http://gyazo.com/a344db6c7cbae0a375f7c189b22ba325 in game it sometimes exceeds 3.6 and thats when it stutters, i payed just less than £300 for this card and i dont care if its a bang for the buck card, i was lied to and thats not acceptable, id rather have a full 4gb card that doesnt lose bandwidth after 3.5GB.

this game is probably poorly optimized but my 2gb 660 ran this game better.

I never said that 290x was going to be better..... But the fact that it has 4gb that all runs the same speed is clearly better, the last 0.5gb on the 970 is shocking it makes it unplayable not just a little unplayable. And btw I have dying light and my vram will never go over 3.5 no matter what resolution and settings. You really need to read up before commenting on posts, the last 0.1gb of vram makes the bandwidth like 19GB/s that's shocking.

well if a game uses 4gb it uses 4gb its obvs meant to be that way and if games do come out that use 4gb then what am i supposed to do...... just not play it because my gpu cant run it because it was made under false specification. you're the one missing the point, its not cheap and it doesnt perform the way its supposed to, technically false vram and its not got the l2 cache they said it had, i was lied to and sold a product wrongly which i dont think is acceptable and rather disgusting. its like if someone sold you a watch that was apparently waterproof yet broke when left in water for 30 mins.

Texture Quality - Manual.
Texture Resolution - Extra.
Normal Map Resolution - Extra.
Terrain Detail - Extra.
Image Quality - Extra.
Looks like these 5 settings can be tweaked.

GTA IV is another such game where upping certain settings offers little visual gain, but consumes absurdly high resources.
Try tweaking these settings, if any improvement is there. If the game is storing too many too large textures in memory, it could have a problem.
I have never played this game myself - certainly not on a 970 - so I can't say anything more specific than that.
If you can - post another screenshot with these settings all at lowest. Also try restarting the game after changing the settings(may not be required).

Also, you could turn off antialiasing. 1080p is a large resolution, using antialiasing on such a resolution is a waste unless you have a 27" monitor or something.

This game already looks like junk on ultra never-mind lower lol. I turned aa off put the filtering to normal and all other settings on normal and its only using 2100 now. im not playing this game on them settings though considering i can play battlefield 4 at 95+ fps without stutter.
