Hello,

I would like to know if the current PSU on my build will be enough to run a r9 280x. For example, in Sapphire web site they recommend a 750W PSU for the dual x model.

My build:

i5-4460
ASRock H97 Pro4
Seasonic S12G 550W

I don't plan to overclock, but if I do, I'll only overclock the GPU (not aggressive overclock though).

Thank you.

Yes it should be fine. Just don't run Furmark as voltage requirements can spike on the 280X when you do driving the card up to using a full 300 watts. The Seasonic can handle it.

The 7970 didn't have the power draw bug the 280X has. Furmark is bad for any GPU and both Nvidia and AMD classify it as a heat virus but if the card has the potential it's only a badly written driver away from pulling max voltage in demanding games.

I thought the r9 280x was just a re branded 7970ghz edition. Why would they be different?
