Your wireless adapter is connected, and has valid IP address. Your Ethernet (wired) adapter is also connected, but does not have valid IP address.

So - where goes the other end of the Ethernet cable? If it goes to the same router you're using for Wireless, there is something wrong at the router side.

Whatever your wired Ethernet port is connected to, it's not handing out IP addresses via DHCP (dynamic host control protocol). It may be connected to a dumb switch or it may be connected to a router that is not running DHCP on its wired connections. When the port comes up with a "169." address, it means that it asked for an address from anyone out there (because it is configured to do so), but that no one responded with a valid address. The "169" is the default when none is provided.

You need to connect to your router and configure it, specifically turn the DHCP feature ON. Some routers will not let you log in to it as Administrator wirelessly, yours may. Otherwise you'll have to give your wired Ethernet port a static IP address in the same subnetwork range as the router (i.e., 192.168.0.xxx), connect an Ethernet cable to it, then log in to the IP address 192.168.0.1 with a web browser. You'll need the router manual in order to know the default userid and password, you can probably Google that based on the brand and model number of your router.

Give your Ethernet port an IP address so it will function on your local network (defined by your router). That will allow you to connect to the router.

Connect the wired Ethernet port from your computer to a wired port on your router. Then open up Control Panel:

1) Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center.
2) Click on "Change Adapter Settings" in the upper left of the "Network and Sharing Center" window.
3) Find the icon for your wired LAN (Ethernet) port - right-mouse click on it and select "Properties".
4) Double-click on "Internet Protocol Verstion 4 (TCP/IPv4)".
5) In the "Properties" window that opens up, click on the radio button next to "Use the following IP address:"
6) Pick an address that you're sure isn't being used at the moment, such as 192.168.0.253
7) Set the "Subnet mask:" as 255.255.255.0
8) Set the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.0.1
9) Click on the radio button next to "Obtain DNS server address automatically"
10) Set the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS server), you can leave "Alternate DNS server" blank for now.
11) Click on OK, then click on OK again until you're back at your network adapters window, then you can close it out.

Now open up Internet Explorer and, in the URL (address) field at the top of the window, type in "192.168.0.1". This should connect you to the router's administration/configuration web page.

At this point you'll need to know your router's UserID and password, which, as I said before, you'll have to Google or get it from your manual. You do have a router manual, right?

If this is too complicated for you then I suggest your get a pen or pencil and hold down the little "reset" button on the back of your router for ten seconds while the router is plugged into AC power, then let it out, then let it sit for a minute or two. This will set it back to its factory settings and probably just work for you without any configuration on your part.

The configuration page of routers differ between them, but you want to go to your LAN setup page and make sure that DHCP is ON. That means when a PC connected to your router is booted up and requests an IP address, the router will provide one.
