What card should I buy next?

I bought the MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr III PE/OC GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-Bit GDDR5 card in 2011. It has done well, but will not play Far Cry 4 full maxed out, not even close. To maintain 35FPS I need to play at medium video setting in FC4, sometimes high but not for long. With time the FPS dip under 30FPS and is then unplayable.

I am unsure as to what upgrade path I should take. The 960 looks attractive, of course, because of the price, new architecture, power consumption etc... but I am unsure how much it will outperform my current card.

I'd like some future proofing in my new card, but only because I know that next year or the year after there will be a 4K monitor on my desk and I'd like a card that can handle it and the games I'll be playing in 2 to 3 years before it's time for another upgrade.

Won't spend over $350 and would very much like to spend closer to $200.

Thank you for your advice and suggestions.

best card to get will be GTX 970 but it is around the 300$ - 350$ price range, cheaper alternative will be R9-280x at 200$ - 250$ price range. GTX 970 will be able to handle most titles at 1440p max settings with avg 50 - 80 fps and the 280x will perform worse than the GTX 970, i would say keep the card and wait for AMD 3xx series

Thanks for the response.

Do you think the 960 will be a significant upgrade to my current 570?

Also I certainly could OC my 570. I havent pushed it even a little over its stock settings. Wonder if anybody has this card and what settings they reliably got to and what impact that would have on my FC4 play and FPS.

960 would be a decent upgrade but I would go for a 970 still. I have a 760 with is last gen but I can still play FC4 at 1080 with mostly ultra/high settings at 40+fps. Graphics drivers are important though as they fixed a major stuttering bug.

Thanks for the reply Matt. Are you running the most recently released Nvidia drivers? I am running those with my 570 currently.

970 seems to be the answer... just wonder if a major update to it is just around the corner that will drop ITS price down in the 200 range! :)
