Hi to everyone.
I bought an Asus M5a97 R.2.0 mobo recently with Fx 8320 cpu to upgrade my desktop. I have accidentally connected the Eatx 12v along side Eatxpwr at the same time and started the desktop, right away smoke started to come out of the Cpu and one of the Eatx 12v pins from the first low hand corner pin and it turned black and the yellow cable from my corsair 650 w started to melt pretty bad. I need to ask you experts for ur help and advice if the cpu or the mobo are still good, I have disconnect the Eatx 12v right away and restarted the desktop everything is working and I still see the green light on mobo itself. My question is as it was the first start of the new system I do not see or hear any sound or the Bios screen at all its pitch black on the monitor. Can some one pls help me out on this mistake of mine as I don't have any budget to take the computer to get it fix at this time.

What do you mean by "I have accidentally connected the Eatx 12v along side Eatxpwr"? I presume smoke came out of the case, not the CPU; otherwise the motherboard and CPU definitely would be dead.

You also wrote "I have disconnect the Eatx 12v right away and restarted the desktop everything is working and I still see the green light on mobo itself." Does the system POST and everything works properly without connecting the normally required CPU ATX 12V connector to the motherboard?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes the mobo is not dead but the cpu is dead. The power supply Atx 12v connector is melted and it's not usable anymore. I have purchased a new power supply and returned the Cpu to the place where I purchased it and got it replaced with a new one. Now the bios screen is visible and successfully installed Windows 8.1 on the new system. I was so lucky the mobo didn't die.
Thank you for your response man.

Tnx. Same here, have no clue how the mobo is still alive and functional after all that smoke came out of it. I guess I was really really lucky on that moment.
