Hi peeps... just a quick one...

as i'm rebuilding my pc into a steam box i'm going to chuck a 2tb hdd as the one installation and follow This to turn it into a dedicated steam box...
in the past all i've done is just dragged the whole steam folder to the new location... and with this being a dedicated build i'd rather re-download and install properly, then move the games across if possible rather than re-downloading them as my internet is complete @$$ and can just about manage speedrunners on multiplayer... it normally takes ages to download anything... meh...

any how... would it just be a case of copying the steamapps folder to the new installation? or is there anything else i need to copy?

Solution
In a Windows environment, I have just installed Steam on the new machine, closed it and then copied the whole Steam folder over the top.
Games typically detect that they have not run on the new machine before and perform any required installation steps when you run them.

Please clarify what drives you have now and what drives you plan on running.

example: 120gb ssd + 500gb hdd now
120gb ssd + 2TB hdd new build

Also specify where the folder is currently located, which drive.

And specify which drive you are planning to install the OS on.

Thanks
