How to COMPLETELY restore everything back to Windows 8.1's factory settings WITHOUT Windows recovery files?

My computer is a mess and I just want a completely fresh start.

When I try to restore it, it says:
Insert media
Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files.

Take a USB key, save important documents on it.

Take a windows installation disk (provided you have one), use magicjellybean to write down your product key and wipe the whole thing, reinstall and start a fresh. This is your best solution by the sounds of it.

It is fast, effective and will solve the problem for sure.

Did your system come preinstalled? Trying to determine if your key is OEM

No, but it should be pretty easy to find. The best is still to ask someone you know. Even ask IT at work, that is what I do. You only need it for a day.

Also ignore the guy saying buy it...you have a key as your friend installed it for you. Use the prog I recommended to find out and write it down/take a photo.
