Very powerful (for the purpose) PC game-recordings lag despite they shouldn't

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this thread. I have a problem considering recording my games, to upload to YouTube.

It doesn't matter really, which program I use, the final raw video lags and or is recorded at a static lower frame rate than I wanted it to be. I've tried the following recommended programs, all with the same result:

Open Broadcaster Software
DxTory
Fraps
Mirrilis Action!
Bandicam

I'm using a separate Seagate Barracuda 2TB SSHD ONLY for recording, so that it should be able to handle it whilst gaming, and obviously recording. It's currently running at 203 MB/S according to numerous benchmark tests.

In terms of quality, I've only been recording at 60FPS, since I'm gaming, and it makes more sense with the increased clarity and smoothness.

My PC specs are:

Fractal Design: Define R4 SILENCE Case

Intel Core i7 4790K @ stock 4.0 GHz

ASUS Z-97-A Motherboard

Corsair H100i Watercooler

Nvidia GTX 660 TI MSI TwinFrozr III OC Edition

2 x 8 (16GB) HyperX Fury BEAST 1866MhZ RAM

Corsair CX600 80+ Bronze-certified power-supply

5x Noctua SPF-12 PWN extreme quiet performance 120mm fans

HyperX FURY 120GB SSD

2x 2TB 7200/RPM - 8GB SSD Seagate SSHD

ASUS PCE-A68.AC EXTREME WIRELESS CARD

Standard DVD-CD Read/write CD-ROM DRIVE

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Sigurd

1920x1080 60fps. It's every single game I've tried, a few of them are:

Minecraft
FIFA 15
Hitman: Absolution
Just Cause 2

Hmm, what video player are you using to watch your recordings? I stumbled upon this forum here :http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/173050-dxtory-i-cant-record-60-fps-1920x1080-choppy-laggy-video/

VLC player is sometimes the problem depending on the chosen codec. Try another player and let me know if it is the same?

I've also read that VLC can be really unreliable at times, which is why I've already tried with numerous others, including Windows Media player. Thanks for the reply. :)

Over the past few hours I've tried many different codecs and settings to no avail. :S

Hello, thanks for replying. :)

I feel that the quality I get out of ShadowPlay is very bad, compared fo some of the other solutions. Hardwarepal made an excellent review. They talk about how amazing the file sizes are, but also that the picture you get is noticabely blurry, the colors are watered down etc.

I just don't get that many people with much lesser computers have had succes recording with stuff I couldn't run - I mean, where's the logic behind that? :O

yeah i know what you mean when people of lesser computers have better performance pretty dumb but not can be down about it, but shadow play looks better for me compared to bandicam or fraps and the playback is much smoother than them too

I use OBS, you have it listed. I can record MWOMercs.com matches or anything else for that matter without issue.
The stream is a bit lower quality, but the recorded video is fine.
I am only able to play them back in Windows Media Player, it's in .mp4 format.
Some things to look at:
- Are you using OBS 64bit wit your 64bit OS?
- Increase your buffer - and check to see where your buffer is being stored, ie on what HDD, you might be running your game from the same drive as you are storing the bufffer on as well as the .mp4 file you are creating. That is three file threads on the same drive that would cause heavy usage and sap system resources. I notice when even watching streaming video that the vid has to run a minute for it to come into HD clarity.

- You have an OC Vid Card, do you have it powered directly from your PSU? It should be.

Good Luck!
