I have just built a new desktop, specs below. When I powered the system up, all fans run and there is the beep, but there is no POST and no BIOS screen appearing on the monitor, if I hook the HDMI cable into the GPU, there is the reboot and select proper boot device error. I can try to install windows from disk, but there are no recognized hard drives without the BIOS.

The build is :
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3
CPU: i5-4690K
GPU: Geforce GTX 970
RAM: Team Elite 1600 8GBDDR3
SSD: 128GB Samdisk
HDD: 1TB Seagate
PSU 600W coursair

"...if I hook the HDMI cable into the GPU, there is the reboot and select proper boot device error. ... " Do you mean there is a message on the monitor saying select boot device? If so that message came from the BIOS and your system posted correctly.

This is a touch confusing.

you said: "..When I powered the system up, all fans run and there is the beep, but there is no POST and no BIOS screen appearing on the monitor, if I hook the HDMI cable into the GPU," Before the part where you said "if I hook the hdmi cable..." where was the hdmi cable attached? The BIOS shows video through your video card, not through the motherboard connector when you have a video card installed.

Can you repeat your original post with many more...

Thank you for your time in reading this, it seems that a dying mobo battery causes strange things to happen with bios and start up in general. I replaced the battery and there have been no problems since.
