Can't get Windows to boot from new SSD

So I installed a Samsung SSD 850 EVO in my new HP Envy desktop, hoping to move the OS and my programs over to it and use it as my boot drive, with only files and documents on my original HDD. I used Samsung's included Data Migration software to clone the drive and went into the BIOS at restart to change the boot order. I have the SSD in order above the HDD, but I'm seeing a Windows Boot Manager in the first position that I'm not familiar with. I even switched the SATA cables so the SSD is now in the lowest number position. But as far as I can tell, Windows is still loading from the HDD. From everything I've read preparing to make this change I was hoping it would be a simple process but I'm afraid I'm stuck now. The SSD does me no good if I can't get my OS to boot from it. Can anyone help me out? What am I doing wrong?

You're running Win 8.1 OS, yes?

If you disconnect the HDD, i.e., the source disk that you cloned to the SSD, can we assume the SSD will boot straightway with no problem? That the problem you describe arises only when the HDD is connected in the system?

And, of course, that HDD still contains the OS, yes? You haven't formatted that disk after the successful disk-cloning operation, right?

And your SSD is connected to the motherboard's first SATA connector, either designate SATA 0 or SATA 1, yes?

I believe (although I'm not totally certain of this in your situation) that if you disable the Secure Boot option in the UEFI-BIOS settings (the default is usually Enabled, but not always) that may remedy the situation. If that setting is...

And, of course, confirm that the boot priority order does in fact reflect a first boot to the SSD.

Yes, Win 8.1, 64.

Since I originally posted this question, I went back in and did everything you just suggested. Disabled Secure Boot, disconnected the HDD. Everything booted up and Windows assigned drive C and D to the SSD and it's recovery partition respectively. Works beautifully. Almost.

Now it'll boot up from the SSD just fine, but I when I try to format the HDD to remove the OEM install of the OS it tells me the drive is in use by another program or process. It still gives me the option to continue to format the drive, but I haven't done so yet.

Additionally, I now have problems with the "immersive control panel" in the start screen. When searching for something like device manager, disk management, or app removal I get a dialog box saying the system cannot find the drive specified and it's pointing to a location on my HDD. Remapped to G.

It starts out with g:\\Users\A\AppData\Local\Packages\windows\immersivecontrolpanel_c.....

I can still get into those utilities the "long way", but not using the search on the start screen. That's really just an annoyance, but it makes me afraid there's been a corruption in the OS migration. What should I do?

I'm running into this issue as well. Upgraded my laptop from HDD to SSD, Windows boots up fine, but getting random hiccups like the one mentioned above:

When I try to run "PC Info" I get:

D:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrol...\AAA_SettingsPagePCSystemInfo.settingcontent-ms

The system cannot find the drive specified.

I have Windows 8.1
