Hi I am buying a laptop and I was wondering if this is a good laptop specs for $1200

It has:

I7-4700mq processor
GTX 860m GPU
12GB RAM
256GB SSD

Should this run most games at an alright setting? Thanks!

I believe it'll averagely reach medium-high at 1080p, mileage will vary from game to game.

Those specs for that price tho...is a laptop really absolutely necessary? Just saying, as with 200~300$ less a desktop solution would likely be as much or more powerful than that...

If portability is a must, then by all means, get it (I would, if I were you); if, however, it is not, consider the Desktop option...
The only reason for you to stay away from the laptop solution would be it being a Toshiba model, as they're just bad, especially the Satellite series, period...

Thanks for your answer,

It is a MSI model and I'm trying to look for the best price to performance ratio for a laptop purely because my computer is heavily outdated and in about 6 months I will be moving away to a university so I really don't think buying a desktop is an option at this point. I really would not want to buy a desktop and then have to buy a laptop months down the road I will be a few thousand in debt before getting into university.
