Ok so my Brother has an HP pavilion of some sort but its CPU is an Intel Pentium G2020 @ 2.90GHz Ivy Bridge 22mm with 4GB single stick of RAM at 66fMHz (9-9-9-24) and the motherboard is an Foxconn 2AD (SOCKET 0) with a WD 1TB HDD and an Optical Drive. The first thing i need to do is git rid of the crappy case and put the motherboard/CPU/HDD/Optical Drive in a new larger case to be able to house a larger PSU and a GPU so i found this combo on Amazon by coolermaster that comes with a great case and a somewhat ok 500W PSU

Yes i know that it may not be the best PSU in the world but i only need 400W for the GPU i am getting him which will be the MSI R7-250X because it is the best GPU that will not bottleneck the CPU he has and is a great price. It is the best i could find under $100 as of now. And of course i will be buying him another 4GB stick of memory totaling in at 2x4gb of RAM and i will be buying a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB for his Windows 8.1. So that being said does it seem like this PC will be ok especially for Minecraft and such? He plays at 720p also and he is more than happy gaming on low settings just as long as he can play the game. The MSI R7-250X is much more powerful than my Intergrated graphics HD4600 and HD4600 can run every game i threw at it and some on Ultra so it did good so the GPU i am getting him should dominate at 720p and such. What do you guys think, will he be able to game with this setup and will his motherboard fit in the new case?

PS sorry for the horrible typing i was in a hurry and do not feel like correcting anything haha :p

Well its 1GB of VRAM and in my opinion is not even suitable for any thing. I think no one should go under 4GB of VRAM nowadays but i can not afford to get my brother an R9-290 also lol so i am stuck with the R7-250x 2GB version. If i could find the R7-260x with 2GB under $110 it would be awesome! But thanks bud.

Yea i heard the PSU is a good quality i mean its not as good as Seasonic/XFX or anything but i always make sure i have 100W extra when i do get a hceap PSU like if a GPU asks for 400W psu i get a 500W cheap PSU/ The MSi R7-250x TDP at 200W but asks for a 400W PSU which is over estimating liek how every other GPU does, hell my MSI R9-290 asks for an 800W psu and i use an XFX 550w and my card TDP only 390W lol. But i hope this will work for him if i get all of this do you think he can game good and play every game out atleast on low settings at 720p? I am just worried about his CPU.

You dont need 800w for a 290, with 600-650 you will be fine. The 260x and the 750 ti, are considered a little bit better than the ps4, so yes, it will be enough gpu power for him. But there are some games where the cpu will just not be enough, an old dual core pentium is bad for gaming, even a core 2 duo quad would be better...

Well a 550W is overkill for an R9-290 to be true lol but thats what i use a 550w PSU with an i5-4690 and MSI R9-290. But thanks man i want to upgrade his CPU to an i5 but i do not know what socket his motherboard is :(

He is happy playing at 720p, at 30FPS, on low settinga nd my Chrome book can do that on almost every game so i hope i can for him and i would not mind building him a new system but i want to buy like a few things each month you know what i mean? Like im buying a case with 500W psu this month, next month an MSI R7 250x or 260x than anSSD than an i5.

If there is no budget then fair enough. i5 is a abit of overkill for a r7 250x and 720p low settings.

Why not go Intel G3258 and a new 97 chip mobo for the bang for buck. Brill little CPU that is like $60 and will EASILY play games at 720p (even manages good 1080p dual core gaming).

This way, you have easy future upgrades (just stick an i5 4xxx in) yet you are saving like 120 bucks. An 260x would be a nice matchup. 1GB of VRAM would be plenty for 720p if you found a cheaper 260.
