First i have an older hp pavillion with specs
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01549566.

My lame old school vga connector was misused by the previous owner and broke on me today (as in completely disconnected from the motherboard). so i have someone willing to give me a video card to add into my motherboard (i.e. alternative monitor connection to my working just fine even if it is a little old and slow, like me, computer).
Catch being my current power supply isnt high enough (250) and i need to upgrade to a new one that can support the 2010 ATI Radeon HD 4850 card im being given. Basically it just requires minimum of 450 watt with a 6 pin pcie connector.
BUT with an older motherboard im also concerned about finding something under $50 that wont cheap out on me in 6 months, can match the capabilities of the card and will still be accepted by my outdated computer. And everything i look up i find things like 6+2 pin, and being all unknowing about these things i dont want to risk buying a power supply that if i hook up without connecting those extra 2 grounds will blow up my already cant afford to replace desktop.
So....any legit suggestions?
Im ignorant but not stupid, very analytical and logic based plus i tend to be literal in wording so please explain like im here to learn not like im stupid, i grew up rural country with an old ass dell so ive next to no experience with upgrading etc.

p.s. yes im a woman, we talk a lot even when typing. lol

Please & Thank You in advance!

Thank you for the suggestion, but it seems the item is currently out of stock on every major website i found it.
Being new to the brands and having no experience to base an alternative on, would you happen to have another suggestion?

Thanks for your time

I have a computer close to yours, HP, 6 years old, except I have a Intel Core 2 Quad in it. I upped my PSU in it a couple years ago to a Corsair 650W and it's been awesome so far. No issues at all. Ran my power hogging nVidia card great until the card died.

Take a glance at this one Linky

Thermaltake makes good products. You may be able to find a bit more feedback on this PSU by doing a bit of searching. But that should help narrow it down to a possibility. The main thing is making sure the Main Connector (20+4 connector) will match up. I think most manufacturers make them compatible with a lot of boards nowa days. So as long as what you know you need (450W, 6 pin PCI-E connecter, main connector, etc), matches what you're looking at you should be set with just about any PSU you decide on.
