screen goes black when i try to play my games on my lapttop some work but some go black , ican hit escape and the screen willl

im on dell vostro 1530 , one game (critical strike used to play fine , now i get black screen ,but if i move the mouse while the screen is black i can hear clicks like i did when it worked as the curser goes from one option to another . just cant get it to come up on the screen ,.im also using desk top monitor instead of the laptop screen.can anybody tell me how to fix ?? im having withdrawls...""".must play games """. help!!!

Does the laptop monitor work when playing the games, or do both of them go to a black screen.
First things first, as always check that your drivers are up to date.

Right click on your desktop and go to screen resolution. Now go to advanced settings and check the name of the graphics chip. Then go on Intel or AMD's (depending on which manufacturer made the chip) and in the search bar look up the name of the chip and download the latest drivers. Reset computer after downloading and check to see if the games are working. If this doesn't work try changing the resolution to the Desktop's exact resolution, rather than the laptop's.
