I put a question up about ram yesterday and the two people who helped me said that rather than upgrading to 2x8GB I could just add it to my 2x4GB.

Is this possible? Having from CPU -8GB-4GB-8GB-4GB ? making 24GB.

This is my RAM:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004CRSM4I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

This is the RAM I want to add: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0085IWXB8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Please help. My board is the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming. thanks

It will most likely work, since the whole point of standards is to make most combinations work, but you will not know for certain until you actually try it since there always is the possibility of weird interoperability issues that could be specific to your CPU, motherboard and DIMM combination due to subtle variations in the ASIC and PCB manufacturing processes.

Every chip and PCB is unique even when fundamentally the same, so there sometimes are cases where a given component combination seems to work fine for everybody but you or vice versa.

I think I might just buy the 16GB pack and try it and if it doesnt work then its my fault. But I need an upgrade anyway! thanks

That would not be your fault but finding exactly which component is responsible could be a long trial-and-error process.

If it does not work at first, there is a high probability you can get it to work by either loosening memory timings or lowering the clock. If you still have no luck after that, then there is not much left to try aside from bumping memory voltage up a notch or two.
