So i bought this kingston ram a couple of weeks ago

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-FURY-2x4GB-1866MHz/dp/B00J8E8YSY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425166680&sr=1-1&keywords=HX318C10FK2%2F8

and it ran fine, as it should. and i bought this patriot ram for birthday.

http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-1866MHz-Desktop-Heatsink-PV38G186C9KRD/dp/B0098WZV1Y

i realized that the timings where different, so i tried to manually adjust the timings to the slowest set of kingston ram and i failed. my mobo defaults the ram to 1333mhz. if i adjust the ram higher i fail to boot.

any suggestions? should i return the patriot ram?

Solution
That's my thinking, and even still - there's no guarantee another set of them will play with your current set to spec, but chances are better, at least all would be running under PnP

Try starting with just the Kingston sticks in slots 1-3 from CPU, they should set themselves up to 1866, if so, go to DRAM voltage and manually set to 1.6, next go to the CPU/NB voltage and set manually to 1.27, save, exit, shutdown, add the Patriot sicks in slots 2-4 and give it a try

alright, let me give that a try. right now they are running at 1600mhz on auto. i'll be back.

also, please note that teh computer booted up just fine when i first added the new ram but windows acted retarded and didnt load. and i rebooted and the mobo defaulted the ram to a slower speed.

i set the NB to 1.27 also, and i installed the patriot ram. the stupid computer restarted and the bios said there was a boot failure so it dafaulted the ram back down to 1333mhz. cpu-z also says 1333mhz. i know my pc boots when i set both sets to 1600mhz. but it wont start when i set the ram to 1866mhz and the timings to auto. they dont play along that way.

this is wierd, i tried to boot with just the patriot ram and it has the xmp option on it, it defaults to 1600mhz, but if i try to set it to 1866 with the xmp disabled it wont run that way. i ran memtest it has no errors. it does start with xmp enabled. but ima look for the cpu/nb thing. on the bios the cpu and the nb has different voltage settings. there is no cpu/nb

well, thanks for the help man. kinda bummed i couldnt even get them to run at 1866. ima just return them. i think i'll just stick with 8gb for now. dont really need another 8. maybe i will try and tighten the timings on the kingston ram to squeeze a little more speed.

well now i know not to mix patriot with anything else.
