Is this pc build any good/ worth the price?

I'm building my own pc soon and i was thinking if these parts are good and quick and worth the price, especially compared to pre made computers. This pc is for gaming, video watching, some movie watching and some video processing. This will also be my first build, so any info and advice on how to build would be good, or even a good video to follow, I heard the 750d case would be easy to build in.

Thanks.

I thought water cooling would be a lot more quieter considering the cpu fan wont be as high? also what was wrong with the 750d?

ok, so ive done a few things, lowered the price and with that i put on some really nice little additions. I added a nzxt sentry 3, bitfenix pro pwm fans wich are much better than corsair, a nzxt x61 instead of the corsair h105 because it is quieter, better looking, better temps, and i changed the case from the 650d to the 450d which in my opinion is a better case, i replaced the corsair ram with g.skill ddr3 sniper 2400 mhz (2x4) ram which is better than corsair, i replaced the old thermal compound with i.c. diamond which will give better temps, and an asus dvd drive. Most of the parts i added decreased the price, then i added a few nicer little things to bring it back up to about the same original price. heres the link :) http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/M9WcP6 if you can, i would upgrade the cpu to something more powerfull, are you planning on overclocking at all? more games in the future will be using more cores and the i5 4690k is decent but i suggest should be upgraded to like a 4790k. Then again, you are starting to get into the price range of x99 and you can almost get the 6 core 5820k for 50 more bucks. just some food for thought but anyways, thats what ive done so far

The Noctua NH-D15 is a very quiet a a very good air cooler. Beats H105 which is noisier than NH-D15 . Water Coolers you have the pumps and the fans you still hear.

When a NH-D15 cools a i7 4770K 29-33C at idle and 49-55C under load (30 minutes on Prime95)

All you hear is a barely noticeable hum you wouldn't even notice it unless you room was noise-free which it isn't everywhere has noise so you shouldn't be hearing the fan.

i dont quite agree with justkeeplookin's list. he put on windows 8, an air cooler(It is decent but not as good as air), a seagate barracuda which seagate have the most unreliable drives, a lesser performing ssd, a bigger case, lesser performing fans, not as good ram, thermal paste, and fan controller. just saying...

While Roman's edits look quite nice, I still kinda like the 750d because the bigger case means its easier to work with for my first build, plus, size isnt a problem, the 750d will be able to let me put a fan at the bottom, meaning i have 3 intake (2 at front 1 at bottom) and 3 exhaust (2 fans on the radiator and 1 rear). What additions does the x99 bring compared to a z97?

so for x99, you get a few things. 1, the 5820k has 6 cores instead of 4 which will be used by many games pretty soon and already is, 4 cores will become the way 2 cores is today if that makes any sense. 2 more efficant and better overclocking. x99 is pretty high end stuff i think it would be worth it to go for x99. So, what is your max budget? If you are looking for a bigger case, i would go with the corsair 780t, it has support for dual 360mm rads in front and top, it is very nice for 180. also instead of the msi 980 i would go with evga but that is just me. And for the psu, the hx is pretty crap. you dont want to get a bronze power supply for this price. i would go with the corsair ax760i, it is very very nice. Most of these parts im suggesting you i have myself and are some of the best.

if you want more airflow, what i would do and think is the best is get 3 of these and put them in the front for intake, then 1x 140mm in the back for exaust as well as 2 on the top in push config going through the radiator for exhaust. So that way you have 3 intake and 3 exhaust, but the thing is that the intake are 120mm and the exhaust are all 140mm which means you have negative fan pressure in your case which is good for temperatures and since there are magnetic filters all over the 780t you can worry about dust less.

- Anyone who puts in an ROG board is wasting your money
- Air Cooler is quieter because it has less moving parts.
- X99 will NOT bring any benefit to gaming. Actually you lose some performance. It is meant for productivity.
- Anyone who recommends a water cooler obviously is making an assumption that the OP wants a really clean build, which costs more money, or the best build.
- The 450d Is big. But its a nice size. The 750D is really big....
- X99; NO GAMES will use more than 4 cores for atleast 3-4 years... Most games run on 1-2 cores...
- No need for Thermal Paste... Waste of money really...
- 780t is completely out of the question. I doubt he is going to go with a custom loop ANY time soon.
- PSU Needs to be hiugh qualitly. Almost all of them listed are completely crap. If you do go with them, Have fun with the problems down the road.
- Everyone is slapping on an OVERKILl PSU... A 750 is all you need for sli 980s. hell, a 650 watt would work...

If this doesnt give advice to anyone responding to this thread, Idk what to do then...

So I take it the main use for this pc is gaming, and the rest are for side use/hobbies (video processing?)

What resolution do you plan to play at, and do you plan to sli or upgrade to a single more powerful card later on?

If you want a pure price to performance build I could post one if interested.

Wait till you get the temps with a Noctua NH-D15 . Beats some water coolers and it's much quieter

Yea put 2 fans on top as warm air tends to rise it's easier to get the air out at the top. Put 1-2 for intake on the front. Its more efficient if the radiotor fan is pulling if the fan is strong enough.

Remember a larger slower fan pulls the same volume of air as a smaller faster fan that saying you save more power with a larger fan as not much power is needed to be sent to it

I could go SLI later, but i prefer to have 1 good card, as SLI have lots of problems that I dont really like, it causes a lot more heat too, I plan to play at 1920x1080 as i always have and i have had no problems with it, but I could go to 1440x1080. But yes, the main purpose of the build will be gaming, and anything else is just something on the side, but having a cpu good for video processing would also be good, I'm not really too bothered about water or air cooling, as long as either of them give me the lowest temps, but also at a decent level of sound, I wanted the 750d because even though its quite big, i will be able to get 3 exhausts and 3 intakes, because wouldn't negative air flow attract more dust? Also are the corsair cases any good with noise cancellation on the fans? Not overkill super silent, but quiet enough so I can hear myself think. Thank you everyone for the responses and time taken to edit my part picker list, cheers.

Whats wrong with a ROG board? An overkill PSU is good so you dont have to swap it out if you want to SLI later, i have a corsair psu and ive had no problems with it. The 750d has a huge window on the side so yes, A water cooler would make it look a lot more nicer and cleaner looking.

Speaking about making the pc look nicer, I prefer my parts to be either black or red, as it just looks nicer if theres only 2 or 3 colours used.

You don't need a water cooler for a PC to look nice.

To get a rough idea of how it would look like someone did a similar build, but with a different motherboard/case (among other things):

Looks quite nice, are there any better performing parts with the same colours? I wasnt generally looking for a red or black colour scheme, its just that MSI fits that, and i tend to like having all of one brand, kinda an OCD to me
