Today (Sunday, March 03, 2015) I booted up my laptop for the first time and watched my computer "install" a "new device". I haven't bought or installed anything, but the "new" device said "HL-DT-SD DFDBAM GSA-D2 N ATA DEVICE" in the Installing New Hardware dialog box. My actual default DVD/CD burner is an LG Electronics HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device. At least, that's what it was yesterday. I checked my PC for viruses and found a few which were removed successfully, but I can't get the drive to display its correct name. I have tried editing the registry and reinstalling the drive to no avail. My drive will not work unless this problem can be solved. I need a FREE (meaning "does not cost money") fix. Can anyone help me? What could be wrong? I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 32-Bit Version and the system is an HP-Compaq Presario F700 Series notebook. Thanks.
