I need to remove installed drivers with older version, but the setup will not let me install the older version before I remove the later one. How do I do that? I have removed the device and ticked to remove drivers as well, but apparently there is some drivers left somewhere!!! Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Solution
If you had old drivers installed before and an update broke your adapter just hit windows key + R, and type devmgmt.msc .Then once you see your network adapter under networkadapters tab just right click properties on the qualcomm adpater, and then you will see a drivers tab, click on that then click on the button that says rollback driver.

I can't see the Qualcomm Atheros adapter as it has been removed. So I can't rollback. It is a catch 22. I can't install again before removing old driver debris, but I can't locate this driver debris!

So you previously removed it then? so when you go and try to install the driver again it says a newer version is already installed.
Try running a driver cleanup tool. You can find quite a few good ones that are free and open source on google.

Managed to install the Qualcomm Atheros adapter again. It's avtivated but cannot connect. I have the correct driver from http://hpnotebookdrivers.com/hp-probook-4535s-notebook-pc-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-drivers/
so any ideas to solve this would be appreciated. I suspect some kind of MS update has messed things up...
