Overclocking My RAM Question

Ok, so I have 16gb of RAM 2400mhz and a 10-12-12-31 timing. I know how to correctly change my RAM manually but would like to know if I must adjust my CPU settings to achieve the correct speeds. I have a core i5 4690k which I know is overclockable and a motherboard that has XMP. I don't want to overclock my CPU at all just because I don't want to shorten its lifespan and XMP i've heard is a crappy way to change the RAM settings. Any help would be great! Thanks

Solution
All depends on your individual CPU, some 4690Ks can run 2400 while at stock freq others may need a slight OC or a MC (memory controller) voltage increase...if you want to try OCing the DRAM say to 2666 or higher, you normally will need a OC on the CPU ;)

Gotcha haha, so do I only have to press XMP? Is that it?
