Toshiba 3tb hard drive w/ mac book pro

I just brought the toshiba 3tb hardrive to backup my mac book os snow leopard.

Mac is asking if I want to erase the Toshiba.

I am not sure if I should do that, the hard drive did not come with any software.

Doubtless the new Toshiba portable hard drive comes with some utility software on it (most do, eg automatic backup software etc) but whatever it is it's all optional and not required for the drive to work properly. If you think you might want to try the Toshiba software, copy it to a pen drive or to your Mac's internal drive before erasing.
