I was wondering if my Dell Xps 8700 could be upgraded to the GeForce GTX 780 from my current graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645)
Specs:
Core i7
Windows 7
16gb Ram
1TB

There shouldn't be any problem upgrading to GTX 780. Your system is perfectly compatible as you've got a decent i7 with 16gb of ddr3 ram. But rather than going for 780, go for 970 as it's way cheaper but gives better performance.

The only thing I'm worried about is if it will fit in my case?

yes it should easily fit into a XPS 8700 case without any problem. Some guys already using 780 with identical system just google about it. Anyways, if you're not sure then you can take your computer to a local pc store and there check if card can fit into your case or not.
