Battlefield 4 Crossfire FPS drop

I have been looking around online to see if any one else has had a similar issue as me when it comes to BF4 and crossfire but no luck, so here it goes.

I am currently running an i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz with a 7970/280x crossfire config. In BF4 if I use dx11 my CPU maxes out and I get generally un-smooth game play averaging around 60 fps (I have my monitor overclocked to 96Hz so 96 fps is what I am shooting for). But even with what should be considered good frames with the CPU maxed it makes for an unpleasant gaming experience.

So I have also tried using mantle, using this I am able to easily pull the 96 fps and the game is much more smooth since the CPU is no longer bouncing off the ceiling, but every minute or so I get fps drops into the 18-33 fps range, which is incredibly annoying. So no matter if I use dx11 or mantle I can't win, and so I am wondering if any one else has had a similar issue and if they were able to fix it.

Also when I get these fps drops they do not correlate with a CPU or GPU spike in usage, they happen seemingly random, it can last anywhere from a fraction of a second to maybe a couple seconds and then every thing goes back to a normal 96 fps.

System Specs:
i5 3570k
XFX 7970 / HIS 280x
480GB Mushkin SSD <-- Game installed here
850W Corsair PSU
Windows 7 64bit

CPU load using DX11 = ~99%
GPU usage with DX11 = 55-65%

CPU load using Mantle = 75-85%
GPU usage with mantle = 65-80%

I find it easier playing the game on borderless mode when I had my R9 280x. But beware though, it will disable your CrossFireX config. Which is why I moved to Nvidia in the first place. They support multi GPU support in borderless mode.
