I just purchased an AMD FX 8350 and an Asus m5a97 motherboard. I tried overclocking my CPU to 4.3 GHz but I always get a bluescreen of death error or my PC shuts down when trying to run Prime95. I have a decent cooler (Corsair H55) so my cpu doesn't go higher than 55c. I also tried increasing the voltage. Would it be better to upgrade my motherboard to the ASrock 990Fx Killer AM3+?

If your board is the r2 then there's no way you need to upgrade to a different one.
If its an le then its a poor choice for an 8 core.
The h55 is NOT a good cooler for an fx chip- its style over substance & is outperformed easily by the majority of decent 120mm air coolers.

I can still return my motherboard and get a new one. My options are:
1. Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Socket AM3+ 990FX
2. Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Socket AM3+ 990FX
3. ASRock 990FX Killer AM3+

What exact steps are you using to overclock??
If your over clocking using software or using the auto overclock options in bios then the problem lies there,as far as I know it ups the fsb as well which overclocks the ram - this will almost always create problems if you don't drop the ram speeds or loosen the timings at the same time.
Do a straight simple multiplier overclock with the 8350 - you should be doing that 4.3 ghz on stock voltage IMO with no problems .
Some chips are just bad overclockers though full stop - the 8350 already has a high base clock which is why bang for buck I've always grabbed 8320's & pushed them to 4.2ghz or so.
