Solution
Any of i5-4440 / 4460 / 4570 / 4590 would be perfect for your gtx 780, and the asrock h97 pro4 is going pretty cheap these days

As for power supply, the xfx 550w would be enough I think
The A8 isn't power hungry and your PSU has the required 8 pin connectors, it's close but you should be ok. An uppgrade to a better quality PSU wouldn't be a bad idea though when you can

Yes it will bottleneck in cpu intensive games or sections of games, but you should still have a plenty enjoyable gaming experience imo

ok do you think that the bottle neck will stop me from seeing the improvement from the gtx 760 to 780 or will i still see a boost in fps

Its probably bottle necking as is, you also have a RAM limitation.
Your power supply is pretty close to what I would say is too much load... A GTX780 could be too much for it.

But hell, put it in and see how much of a performance increase you get.

He listed two 4gb sticks separately. I missed it at first too

One thing I didn't ask you op, have you got that a8 @ 4.5ghz+?

no the apu aint overclocked at all my mobo aint good enough to overclock only a55 chip set i had a a88x board but it died. and the reason for different ram stick only had 4gb and i picked up another 4gb stick cheap one day second hand.

i dont overclock my gpu anymore had one die and never again overclocking never goes well for me i have learned that lol

Ah, you said you had an A88x

Novuake is right, running it at stock speeds you're likely already getting some bottleneck situations with your gtx 760. I wouldn't buy another A88x board though, better to try and change socket rather than invest further in overclocking your A8

ok cheers for your help im going to look at the prices of the i5 and the mobo i have a old cm psu that is 550w but not 80+ would that be any good maybe run the 780 on its own psu can it been done.

DubbleClick

Admirable
If the cx 500 really has an output of 500w that's more than enough. An I5 4460 and a b85 board will have like a power draw of 90w maximum together. 20w for 2 hdds, a dvd reader and what not is 110w. That leaves 390w for the gpu, which it won't even ever come close to consuming. You'll most likely see 300w being drawn in performance intensive games, 350w while stress testing both cpu and gpu.

That FSP power supply actually has less power available for your GPU and CPU than the CX, despite the higher total wattage. And I wouldn't run a dual PSU setup because you won't get proper voltage regulation.

Are you based in the US?

nope the uk

As I said before your CX500 is cutting it close but you should be ok. The gtx 780 has a tdp of 275w but in real world tests it's more like 250w, and your A8 has a tdp of 100w but with the on-die GPU turned off it's probably closer to 80w. I think it'll run, but I'd be looking at a short to mid term PSU upgrade to something more solid that's all. The XFX 550w is roughly the same price as a CX500 but much better quality

Just seconding. :) Seems like a solid plan.
