recently i had a fight with my brother and he told me he would block me off the internet.
i've not been able to connect using wifi since (only through network cable) but he's telling me he hasn't actually done anything on the router side and its my fault. As my brother is known to lie I tried to access the router settings by typing ipconfig into command prompt to get the default gateway and then typing that into my browser. However, i discovered he has set a password for the router settings so i cant check myself. He's now looking through my laptop saying that-one- he's found somthing called a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter (which im sure has been there since windows was installed) and hes saying that it shouldnt be there and could be part of the problem and-two- he's also saying that i've messed up my network settings by using ipconfig. I told him that all i did was type in ipconfig into command prompt (no parameters-literally just "ipconfig") and view my default gateway nothing else. and he's telling me that even just doing that will reconfigure my network settings-which i dont believe.
and why can i still connect using network cable and not wifi? and how can i tell if he has blocked my by changing the router settings?
Sorry for the long-ass paragraph, i accept that i am not that tech-smart but i believe my brother is lying to me.

Your brother is being a dirtbag and must really...I will leave it, none of my business.

All of what your brother has said from a tech point of view is utter BS. Disregard it.

He has disabled your device from joining via wifi, it is a simple setting.

Option 1) Ask your parents for the log in details, I am sure they are the ultimate decision maker.

Option 2) Go to the router, take a pin and find the reset button. Put the pin in and hold until the think reboots. Now it will be back to factory settings and you can just re-enter your ISP details to get back on track. All password/port/device settings will be reset to default.

Let me know how it works out. I am the eldest brother with 2 siblings and would never do this to them...I am...

Thanks for your reply, i've asked my mum for the router password to simply look at the settings but he wont give it to her as he says i will mess up the settings that he has spent hours fine-tuning (to be honest we have a pretty complicated system of networks) which brings me onto the second thing- if i reset the router to factory settings i will literally get my arse kicked so thats out.
Now he's saying he's done some research and he thinks he knows how to fix the problem, that he wants to reinstall my network adapter and play around with DOS. He told me that it wouldnt have connected using the network cable if he'd blocked my MAC address.
He also said that the problem could have resulted from playing around with the homegroup settings, the original argument started when i found out that when he set up shared printing he also allowed my pictures to be shared with the homegroup so i got pissed and stopped file and printer sharing/shared streaming however, all the settings i changed were put back and i never actually left the homegroup.
I really don't know anything about computers so am at a loss really, i dont know why he would go through so much trouble but he is also a very manipulative person so i cant trust him. I really wish i could just look at the router settings without it causing a massive argument. But thanks for your help anyway as it proved that the ipconfig stuff was rubbish.
