Please, I need some help. I downgraded my new Dell Inspiron 17 (5000 series) from Windows 8 to Windows 7, and reinstalled the version I had previously for my Dell (XPS LX502). I have an old driver CD, but while the USB drivers worked, the wireless drivers did not. Therefore, I cannot connect to the internet. A similar problem was discussed in this thread

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2304488/downgraded-windows-windows-install-drivers-found-connect-internet.html

I can't find any drivers to download that work, but there seems to be a version of the laptop that runs windows 7 (I know, I just found out, next time I will just buy this version), but the damage is done. Nevertheless, this should mean that there are drivers for the windows 7 working with the Inspiron 17 that I have.

Can anyone help me? I'm starting to get desperate, and I fear that there might not be drivers, which would make my laptop pretty useless...

I would really appreciate it

Dear all

Thanks for the suggestions. The wireless software driver of windows 8 does not work, as well as windows 7 drivers from similar models (inspiron 17 5748, inspiron 15 3737). The guy at dell told me that, while there might be computers that are sold in the US with windows 7, in Europe (I am from Switzerland) they only sell windows 8 computers, and therefore, he could not give me any drivers for that computer with windows 7.

What can I do? If I try the windows 7 version of the wireless driver, there is a note that says the installation is blocked, as this software package cannot be installed on my system.

It worked, after hours of testing and error messages... The following link of another model of the inspiron 17 gave me a driver that was able to access the w-lan, but only if you don't install the bluetooth driver (I don't know why). So, for anybody with the same problem, download the network driver and install only the w-lan driver, then you have to start the computer manually, and you have access to w-lan

Thanks everybody for sharing their solutions, it is a process and I am happy to be able to go to the internet :)
