What is bottlenecking my computer?

Hello everybody, I find that my pc is not giving me the performance I'd like, it can lag a lot in some games and I was wondering if the community could recommend what I should upgrade?

CPU = AMD FX 6300 SIX CORE 3.5GHZ
GPU = RADEON HD 6770 (My catalyst controller center says it has a memory size of 4855mb. Does this mean it is a 4 gb video card?)
RAM = 8gb kingston ram.

I'm running on windows 7 64 bit and I have a 500 watt PSU.

So any recommendations?

well i am happy for you...but it does not tell me a lot..

you need a very good psu like seasonic/xfx/antec hcg/evga B2-G2/rosewill capstone

a 500W psu is enough ..but i do not know your model you have now?
a 600W psu will be better in offering you a bigger gap in wattage

The PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 500W. It is reviewed poorly on newegg somewhat, due to people reporting it dead on arrival or breaking, but I've had no noticeable quality issues.

It has the proper connectors for any GTX 970 and many AMD cards below a 290x.

It's debatable as to how safe it is, if you're somebody who believes in taking no risks ever with their parts then you will want to upgrade to a 600+ watt better brand PSU. If you're alright with pushing your parts to their limits, this PSU SHOULD survive according to specs.

I suggested an R7 265 because of the power supply. However, TR2's are not good power supplies so if you can afford a new PSU and a graphics card we won't hold you back.

What is important here is your budget, and what kind of result you want to see in games at which resolution.

+1 to this. It really does depend upon your budget. You can cheap out on critical parts and hope you win the Chinese electronics explosives lottery by not getting the part that bursts into flame, but in the long run it's better to buy a higher end part that will last through several builds.
