I swapped out the hdd for a ssd about 11 months ago and now the laptop is not seeing ssd, I think the ssd may be bad but have not had a chance to test it yet, it is under warranty so I should be able to get a working replacement. I have imaged and cloned before but have actually never loaded windows from a recovery partition.

I still have the separate recovery partition saved to the original hdd but am using it for extra space in my desktop so would rather not have to remove it. Can I transfer the files for recovery to an external usb drive?
Just looking for anyone who has a surefire way of doing this in as little effort as possible

Hey there, Chad!

I'd suggest you a couple of links to look over. Hopefully you'd able to resolve the issue with the suggested solutions/fixes there:
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/step-by-step-guide-to-move-recovery-partition-to-usb-and-reclaim-up-6-gb-without-3rd-party-software.61604/

I'm sure that creating a recovery disk on a USB should do the job, but I'm not entirely sure if you will be able to boot properly without it plugged in.

Keep me posted! Hope this works for you! :)
