PC Turns Off Automatically

Hello everyone! Evertime I load Far Cry 4 and afterwards I found the same symptom with NFS Rivals as well although not with Black Ops 2, I see that the PC shuts off right after loading is finished. Just so this morning, I deleted the themes file under windows/resources and hence my monitor was not showing me a thing except the mouse pointer. So, I inserted my Windows DVD and instead of formatting, I troubleshooted and clicked on resetting my PC and I am experiencing PC shut off ever since. I ran Far Cry 4 just fine yesterday night and ran any other game without hassle.

My PSU is only more than a year and half old now. I ran Furmark, Prime95, Coretemp, Burnintest but none shut my PC except after loading the games. Is the GPU faulty or PSU or should I format the PC to see if it resolves? Thank you

However, now that I cleaned the PSU a little and can play Far Cry 4 now but I am afraid of any future shut off.

Under current settings, I had finished Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and Watch Dogs (quite hard in FPS but it sure was playable with some tweaks) and almost done with Unity in low settings getting a very low FPS (suddenly unplayable after reaching sequence 8).

My PC Configuration is:
Motherboard: XFX X-G31
Processor: Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz
RAM: 3GB DDR2 (Max 4GB in 2 slots)
GPU: Gigabyte HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair VS 450
Resolution: 1366x768

not sure if you are saying you have 3GB of ram installed only or you are running 32 bit OS and limited to 3GB of the 4GB's you have installed.

try updating all the drivers for your m/b and graphics card. the repair might have reset them back to old 2008 drivers.
try d/l this tool slimdrivers utility
https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php
it can be annoying i usually uninstall the utility after a month when i know all the drivers are functioning properly.

if that doesn't fix most of the problem, could be heat issue inside the case? maybe just need another fan for intake or new thermal paste on cpu and/or graphics card, could be ram issue, could be a few things i don't know what to say if it's not driver issue with out more info.
, clean out all the dust (psu gpu cpu, fans, case) with a can of spray air if you haven't done already.

your rig is fine the way it is as long as it's clean and thermal paste isn't dried out, sounds like driver issue then.

Lol, you're right on the requirements side but it seems that every site is overstating the requirements. As much as I'd like to wonder I am happy to have this PC where I have succeeded to play any game in my current rig except AC Unity lately which I reached sequence 8 without much problem but then it just became unplayable after a format but I couldn't believe to see that I played Far Cry 4 very smoothly without a single lag in custom settings close to high enabling a fair amount of AA with HBAO Ambient Occlusion. A friend of mine plays in better FPS with 2 gb ram and a core 2 quad processor. But now because of this issue, I cannot finish the game.

Thanks a lot for that software suggestion.

I am running a 64-bit OS and I have a total of 3gb ram in 2 slots. Now, I am really frustrated to have faced such a problem. The last time, I faced exactly a similar problem for which I bought this PSU but then found out that my GPU fan was the main problem as it was damaged and it overheated to a certain level until it shut off but it took time to shut off like giving me a certain amount of time in game before completely turning my PC off. Now, it doesn't give me that much time and I checked my current GPU fan and it's working alright so GPU might not be the issue.

But it all went down with this problem. It's not even 2 years with my PSU so I need use every software to make sure if it's a hardware problem. Meanwhile, I am going to format the PC to check if it is resolved and also clean it but I don't happen to have a dust blower but I will try.

Is there any other stress test other than the one I did in which I can put a 100% load on my components and check the temperature and a software in which I can check my PSU? Thank you

CPU - try OCCT

graphics card - Furmark

Software - bios will show 12v, 5v and 3.3v readings for your PSU

I recently used AIDA64 latest version and ran the CPU stress test without hassle until I clicked FPU stress for which my PC almost suddenly shut off. I don't know but this may be the only test that shows a failed result. Other than that, I think Prime95 may also have shut my PC yesterday but didn't shut it the next time and I didn't understand that time. Now I think it's pretty clear that FPU stress shuts my PC. What does it mean? How to solve such issue? Is my processor faulty? Thank you

Thanks. But a good cpu can succeed an FPU stress test. I could game before, now I can't after sometime. Do I need to put a new thermal paste? What's the solution?

We're just going around in circles here. Only stress test a CPU if you need to. Not just for the fun of it. To test it's stability when overclocked.

Without stress testing what CPU temps are you getting at idle and while gaming? How are you measuring these?

What 12v, 5v and 3.3v rail readings are you getting in bios?

Try your PC with a 2 x 2gb ram kit in it.

Thanks a lot man! I really appreciate for a step by step analysis. This way, it's much clearer for me.

About the stresses, I am getting with everything pretty normally if not for stressing FPU or playing Far Cry 4 or NFS Rivals. Otherwise, it's working as it should. Before stressing my FPU, I stressed my CPU with a 100% load where I got around 60 plus degrees but after FPU stress, it rose to a 70 plus and then after a while as more temperature rises I guess it made the pc causing it to shut off without warning. At idle, it's about 40-50 or around 50 at max. During gaming, I don't know how to read the readings.

Should I alt + tab to see it? Is AIDA64 good? Or should I use sth else?

Hey, I downloaded HWInfo but I didn't find Sensors. I did play until today I couldn't. How do I get rid of any overclock? I cleaned the PC as much as I could.

Oh, I once loaded the default settings so I think it's already overclock free. I have tested sth about the temperatures and I think my GPU might be faulty but I am not sure. I tested using Unigine Heaven and it passed but the temperature was around 75 at the last moment. When I game, pc shuts off but within seconds before, it freezes the gaming screen scrambling it and make an annoying sound before shutting it off and previously it shut off without warning. Last time, I had to change my GPU because of a damaged fan but this time, my GPU fan is working. Is it a possibility for GPU temperature to rise even with the fan on meaning can the GPU be faulty with a good fan? The fan can be controlled using Speedfan and the effect of the increasing fan speed to 100 can also be noticed. Thank you

Can GPU be faulty with its fan still working?

Is it safe to game under increased 100% of GPU fan usage via speedfan?

I need to see the temperature of GPU when I game. But I need to know which software displays it in game?

Can GPU be faulty with its fan still working? - Yes

Is it safe to game under increased 100% of GPU fan usage via speedfan? Yes - I'd prefer to use Afterburner though

I need to see the temperature of GPU when I game. But I need to know which software displays it in game? Afterburner - using the OSD that comes with it via RivaTuner
