Hello I'm new to this sorry if I'm in the wrong place. But I bought my setup back in 2012. And I just upgraded my GPU from a MSI gtx 660 to a and r9 290x but with this card it gives me black screens it freezes my pc it crashes a lot could it be the drivers or my PSU?http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16817371044
That is the PSU I have its a antec 25 650 watt 80 plus bronze.
These are my PC specs the motherboard is crap I know ha it was cheap. The card is a power hog the box says at least a 700 watt but dang that's a lot. None of my hardware is overclocked or any of that fancy stuff its all stock. If I need to upgrade something let me know:)

Mobo- MSI 760gm
Cpu- and fx 6300
PSU antec 650 watt 80 plus
GPU r9 290x
Ram 8 gigs don't know if brand matters got both sticks for 75$.

Yepp I made sure I uninstalled all the nvidia drivers. Drivers are all up to date. And I clean .my PC about twice a day with iobit asc. Oh and also I don't do any 4k gaming ha just 1080p and my and driver is up to date for sure so it has the newest version. I guess its the PSU. Well and the processor and PSU recommendations? Not toooo expensive though :)

Yea I read about the black screen with the and drivers. But why would it freeze my desktop(as in non gaming related software internet, steam ext) Is that also a driver issue? I'll mess with the drivers and see what works:)

So I did a benchmark with unigen heaven....weird my card scored a 2471 I'm sure my previous gtx 660 can score that the r9 290x on the GPU benchmark should be around 6000 why????? My CPU can't be bottlenecking my GPU I have a and 6300

So i looked more into my specs. Looks like I need to over clock my CPU to get the full potential of the GPU. And I may need a PSU. I ran the unigen heaven benchmark. If it was the PSU wouldn't it have given me a black screen and or turned the PC off? None of that happened during the benchmark but I did get some stutter during it. Another thing when i start up windows 8.1 and when it shows the windows logo then when you see the little thing loading bubbles below it it freezes. Amd is just full of problems nvidia is so much more reliable I had no problems with my gtx 660
I heard something about doing something to the bios I can't access it

is it the same version of heaven and setting?

did you mean mobo bios or gpu bios?

Yea I meant mobo. I was test my graphics card temps my CPU and everything else ran nice not very hot but my gosh my GPU runs at 197degrees F or 90 degrees Celsius. That's hot. Its a reference card I'm guessing that's why

Yea its a refernece card. Made by powercolor i know its not the best brand butni invested in a gpu water coolee cause they get hot. I have figured it out it what the problem is for anyone that is going through my situation. Its the motherboard. I had a 760 chip set you need at least a 900 chip set once I changed that everything worked out fine.
