Can anyone tell me the best external hard drive for playing games off of? Under $300, preferably 6gb/s eSata connectivity, highest capacity possible.

Thanks!

Hey BoJangle. The short answer is that the external drives are not meant for gaming and for such continues usage. Especially if the enclosure is not good enough, this might shorten the live of the drive. If you don't have enough SATA cables in your PC or if you are using a laptop, there might be more viable options if you do decide that you want to play from a drive which is externally connected, such as: a docking station and an internal 3.5" drive or if it's a laptop - an HDD caddy and a second 2.5 internal HDD.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the answer! I'm only looking for an external because I had to take out my main HDD bay to fit my monstrosity of a graphics card in. Your answer considered, would you have any recommendations for docking stations? (Same specs, esata 6gb/s, and so on...)

Ofthen you can just fit SATA power cable and connector to the plugs in the HDD bay on the laptop and have the actual HDD sit on the side.

Obviusly its not going to look all that awesome, with the HDD duct taped to the exterior, but if you get cooling problems along ith the new graphics card, your probably looking for an external cooler anyways, and those sometimes have a little room for a HDD somewhere.

Why your gaming on a laptop that your steadily crippeling into a desktop. Well ill leave that to you.

Sorry, but I can't recommend you any particular docking station. But in your case, it does sound like this would be one of the best options, if you can't use your HDD in the case.
This here provides some options, but you'll have to look them up on the web: https://flipboard.com/@kinida/best-hard-drive-docking-station-reviews-2015-vqmc2fgaz
