System locking up intermittently accompanied by audible buzz; Monitor Speakers buzzing relative to graphical demand

Hello Everyone,

I have had two persistent issues with my computer and sound for over a year and cannot seem to identify the causes. They are potentially interrelated as they both seem related to graphical demand.

Firstly, the entire system locks up occasionally for less than a second and is accompanied by a loud buzz emitted by any sound device connected to it. This doesn't appear to be affected by how long the computer is on for (heat), but may increase in frequency with graphical demand from playing videos or games. When running Performance in Task Manager there is an enormous spike in CPU Usage (from 3% to 50% for instance)

Secondly, I have monitor speakers connected via insulated cables to a TASCAM interface, which has USB connection to the PC. They emit a low hum constantly, even whilst not plugged into something. This sound also increases in volume corresponding to graphical demand too. It is unbearable at times and they are consequently not being used.

If anyone could provide insight as to a potential cause for either or both problems I would be more than grateful! Thanks, the specs are as follows:

Solution
disable nvidia audio and realtek audio (in BIOS if possible, if not, disable in Windows device manager)

all drivers manually installed? Drivers downloaded and installed from nvidia.com (VGA), intel.com (chipset, sata),samsung.com (ssd firmware), asrock (BIOS up to date, don´t flash in windows, only in BIOS itself) and up to date?

prime95 (smallfft) + realtemp ->temperature after 10minutes
furmark (burn in) ->temperature after 10minutes

install memtest86+ to an empty usb thumb drive, boot from it and test (2 cycles minimum) http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

AS SSD benchmark, post screenshot

Thanks so much for providing multiple processes to help. I ran both torture tests, reloaded NVIDIA and Samsung drivers, ran Memtest for 6+ hours and took an AS SSD Benchmark. Please see attached screenshots of tests:

Prime 95: http://i.imgur.com/fZGcR5V.jpg
Furmark: http://i.imgur.com/xJyNFlj.jpg
AS SSD: http://i.imgur.com/Xa6iXvy.png
Memtest84+ - Completed Test: http://i.imgur.com/qIGhIpP.jpg
Memtest84+ - Test Summary: http://i.imgur.com/qkQmdMU.jpg (All 4 errors occurred in Test 13)

The Prime95 heated and then tested cooling rate as above, so if I need different settings I can run it again.

Thanks

Is your BIOS up to date on version 2.90?

Now, just use one RAM module in DIMM Slot DDR3_B2 and run memtest86 again. If no errors, replace this one with the other.

If both are not getting errors, plug both in. One in DDR3_B2 and the other in DDR3_A2. If errors occure again, set the xmp mode in BIOS to normal or to another profile and memtest again.

SSD:
connect the Samsung 840pro to an Intel SATA3 port. Now it´s plugged in to the asmedia sata3 controller (SATA3_A0 and SATA3_A1), which is not as fast as the Intel. Plug into SATA port SATA3_0 or SATA3_1

install up to date driver: Intel rapid storage (irst)

temperature of the 660ti is bit high but still ok, maybe cleaning the fan and heatsink will get lower temps. A case Fan might help too, if not installed yet.

Thanks again! I actually misidentified my Motherboard but have followed the steps to update the Bios anyway.
I actually have an Asus P8Z77-V.

When you are talking about changing RAM modules, do you mean physically moving them and re-running Memtest?

I'll check the ports on this motherboard to see if there is a more suitable one for the SSD

Somehow, after all these years working with computers I still feel inept! So thanks again.

BIOS Version 2104 is now flashed onto the Asus P8Z77-V ?

Yes, physically moving the RAM modules
same slots than the other mainboard ;)

Use Intel sata ports SATA6G_1 or SATA6G_2 (gray colored)
(not the AS Media SATA6G_E1/E2 (navy blue colored) and not SATA3G_3-6 (blue))

I cleaned all the internals, updated to Asus P8Z77-V and checked slots of RAM.
As there are two sticks, one is in the Grey slot and the other in the Dark Blue.
The SSD hasn't been moved as the structure of this case is enormously cumbersome to install.

Over the last few days there hasn't been a single instance of it locking up!

Thank you so much for your continuous assistance
