Hello,

I have no problem 99% of the time, but in a game I do.
When I start the game and go to the character creation screen, I can click on a number of different available characters with no problem. However certain characters cannot be clicked on or the display driver (NVIDIA 341.44) fails every single time. The message pops up "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 341.44 stopped responding and has recovered."

This is what I have done to attempt to fix the issue:

I downloaded / installed all windows updates.
rebooted
I opened the display drivers folder and removed anything in there.
I uninstalled all the display drivers.
rebooted
I then reinstalled the NVIDIA 341.44 driver from their website as directed by them.
rebooted
attempt to replicate the issue and having the same exact problem...

I opened the case and cleans all components of dust, ensured all fans working properly just in case. The problem persists.

I then attempt to go into safe mode with networking and run it again.
This time the game wont even start at all, an error comes up for Direct3d.
So I reboot to normal mode and run directX diagnostic tool.
It shows that Direct 3d is enabled and that no problems are detected anywhere.
I try to start the game in normal mode and it works (as usual), but then the display driver is still failing.

I have spent multiple days trying to figure this out and I just give up. I need help, please.

I have this:
P9X79 Asus mobo
Intel Core i7 3820 3.60GHz
GeForce 8800 GTS with the NVIDIA 341.44 driver installed
32 GB RAM

Solution
You say "the game", does this happen in only one game or any game? Try running 3DMark and see if the system is stable.

You have an older video card anyway, the 8800 is known for cooking itself especially if not kept clean. The issue is most likly a bad video card.

For a system with 32 gig ram and an i7 CPU, you would want to replace it with at least a R7-260X card to match the CPU for games. You can go lower to something like a R7-250X but then you are just wasting CPU power and getting an unbalanced system.

hang said -- "the game", does this happen in only any game or any game

I wonder if its a newer game that the card may not support ?? also did you get the driver from here ?
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

and did you look at the release notes under the ''additional info '' tab to see if something had changed for that driver you may not of known or seen ??
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/82467/en-us

also as hang said about cooking I had 2 8800 cards and that's how it ended up for them -- you may look to see if the thermal pads are melted or gone but in the end your better of getting a later released card overall as he suggested above [opinion]
