32gb 1333mhz mushkin or 8gb 1600 g.skill?

I'm building a new pc (parts out for delivery today) and I ordered 8gb of 1600mhz corsair vengeance. My dad tells me yesterday he has 4x 8gb sticks of mushkin 1333mhz memory that I could have if I wanted. I have the asus z97-a mobo that will support up to 32gb. I know I would probably never make use of 32gb of memory for gaming but would it be worth it to use it and send the g.skill back or resell it?

No it wont hurt performance at all! There is a small difference but not a noticeable one! Enjoy your 32GB :bounce:

Yep the mushkin is DD3 as well. The difference between 1333 and 1600 isnt enough to hurt performance?

Really? Are you Serious? Even with lower speeds and higher cas latency 32gb is obviously a better choice. The speeds and timings of Ram hardly affect performance, and you will at most only get 1-3 extra FPS over slower higher timed ram.

Plus FREE 32GB!

Thanks for all the help guys, I figured that 32gb was the obvious choice but I wanted a little reassurance before I look into shipping the G.Skill back. 32GB it is!

CAS latency is important.

It may only give a few extra frames in games but in other applications, it will present a huge benefit. The CAS latency determines how long the CPU has to wait to get a response when it makes a request to RAM. It's measured in clock cycles so higher frequency RAM at the same CAS has a lower actual latency also.

Sure when you are comparing same amount of ram it will do better.

But 8gb vs 32gb the CPU has access to a huge amount of Ram, and will allow much more information to be feeded to the CPU than 8gb of faster/lower cas ram would

The amount matters less than the quality of the RAM (The CAS latency) - you wouldn't go for 100L of watered down agriculture grade petrol to run your car with compared to 40L of high grade petrol. It also depends on how many sticks of RAM is being installed - a low CAS, dual channel 8gb setup would crush a single channel, high CAS 16gb setup.
