Yes, in general your cpu will limit the performance of a GTX 970. Depending on how much it is overclocked, the effect will be less. Also in games that are more gpu dependent there will be little to no bottleneck. But if you want to make use of the potential of the GTX 970 the AMD fm2+ platform for now cannot offer this.
Would it limit the GPU's power a lot? If it is way too much then I'll pass.

Agreed. What GPU are you upgrading from? I would say a better pair would be a R9 280 and below.
From nVidia GTX 750 Ti OC

It also depends on your resolution but @ 1080 or below I agree a 280 is the highest it worth going maybe even a 270X.
My resolution is 1920x1080 and I highly prefer a nVidia GPU because of shadowplay. I regularly use it and I wanna stick to it. I'd upgrade my CPU aswell, but it seems to be hard to replace it by myself and I'm totally not willing to bring it to my local computer shops because they have totally no idea what they are doing, they ruined my windows once by installing the wrong audio drivers.
I either way have to find a way by replacing my CPU without bringing it to a computer engineer. Would the GTX 960 be a good alternative? Thanks for all the replies so far guys.
