The other day when sitting at my computer my computer made "hardware disconnect or connecting sound (USB)" the only thing that was plugged in USB wise that stopped working was my wireless keyboard, i had to unplug the dongle and re-plug it back in for it to work again. It seems to do it randomly, but lately every time i turn on my computer i have no choice but to unplug the dongle and re-plug it back in as it doesn't work. Can someone please too me whats going on, I know its not the batteries in the KB as they have been replaced to see if that was the problem. My mouse, Bluetooth, and other usb's works fine.

4/9/2015 I'm still have problems with this, when i first turn on my computer to type in my password to log in i cannot use my keyboard i have to use on screen keyboard once it logs in it begins to download drivers for the keyboard "every time". Its getting to where it doesnt work half the time and it says it cannot be installed or it will pop up and say "UNKNOWN USB DEVICE" in port 8

Solution
i can't say i'm expertly knowledgeable on this issue, but i had same issue with usb connected hard drives, as well as my usb connected keyboard. It didn't start until after a windows update (i'm running win 7 64) - but just the sound of the devices dis-connecting and then re-connecting, repeatedly maybe once every few minutes, was irritating enough, much less losing use of them

i downloaded the latest usb driver and installed it, issue went away but i saved the driver in a folder. A few weeks later, issue returned, i re-installed driver again and issue went away. all i can figure is something is corrupting the driver

i've since turned off automatic windows updates and only accept security updates, and haven't had the issue in 5-6...

in your case, with a wireless keyboard, i think i'd want to eliminate the "wireless" aspect first by connecting a wired keyboard for awhile and see if it still occurrs - if it doesn't, then it's either the driver for the wireless dongle / keyboard or the wireless device itself

hope that helps
